The image above shows my front cover including all the text which will be featured on my front cover which I produced using PhotoShop. I have used all the key features of professional magazines which were also in my flat plan like the masthead, skyline, puff, main sell line, additional sell lines and barcode with selling information. I have used the three colour palette scheme of black, white and red and tried to use an equal amount of each colour. For the text which I wrote against another colour background, I created a rectangle box around the text and used the fill tool to make it the colour I needed. I then moved the layer for the rectangle box behind the layer for my text so the text was visible. I used the shape tool to create the star shape graphic image to make my magazine front cover look more interesting. For my masthead, I used the Smash Punkers font aswell as the Ruptured Sans font for the '!'. For my main sell line which I wanted to make stand out a bit more I added some effects to the text. I used the drop shadow, inner shadow, bevel and emboss and stroke effects to create a darker black edge around the white font. I also used these same effects on my star shape to create the same outcome. From my feedback from my target audience of my flat plan, they said that I should spread my sell lines out a bit more around the bottom so I have done this in my production and have also removed two smaller images which I was going to include on the front cover to make the page less crowded.
Models (L-R): Jonathan Penney, Emily Baxter, Michael Race
This is the medium close up image I took for my front cover in the photography studio with the three light system set up. I asked my models to stand in a pyramidal structure with the girl standing at the front in the middle. From my research of similar products of the same genre I noticed that a lot of magazines used a pyramidal structure on their front cover to clearly show who is the most dominant person out of the band. As the girl is at the front and middle she is displayed as the most dominant out of the band which also represents the rise in leading female artists in the rock genre. The female model has brightly coloured red hair which draws most attention to her and shows a fun and bubbly side to the character and also links in with the colour scheme of one of the main colours being red. The costume of the models is mainly dark and dull colours which relates to the rock indie genre of the magazine and the checkered shirt with plain t-shirt underneath which one of the models wears represents the genre of the music as this is a popular style in the magazines I researched for this genre. I gave the female model cat eye make up with eye liner to make her eyes stand out slightly more. The pose and facial expression of the girl clearly shows who the most dominant out of the band is as she portrays a serious connection with the music. Whereas the male models show a smiling facial expression which could show that they are less serious but also look slightly less confident. I made sure that I adjusted the male models so that they were of the same height as each other before taking the photo so the pyramid structure was in proportion. The models are all close together to show their close relationship with each other, however they could be more close together to show a more strong relationship. The models eyeline is in line with the reader so this image connects with the reader which creates a relationship with the artist and the reader making the reader feel directly addressed.
